About

Carla Sánchez

Carla Sánchez is a mixed media artist that grew up as an only child in Ecuador. She creates works that reflect her search for identity and belonging. Her paintings and ceramics are loaded with emotional landscapes, where her characters become deep sea divers in the oceans of intense feelings and nostalgia.

Carla believes that humans should be the guardians of the natural world and advocates through her art for animal rights in her local community.

Carla earned her Master of Fine Art in Ceramics and Printmaking at Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales, UK (2015). She has shown her art in galleries and museums in Ecuador, the UK, Belgium and Japan. She was artist in residence at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village in Akiyoshi, Japan and the Frans Masereel Centrum in Antwerp, Belgium (2016).

“My work anchors emotional memories of home, a place where I belong that only exists in a dream.”
