Money bowls are a vessel designed to hold the steady flow of wealth. They originate from a blend of Chinese Feng Shui traditions and European witchcraft folklore. The creation of a money bowl is a personal spiritual practice that aims to anchor material growth and prosperity to a physical container. The person pours their psychic intention into the object and fills it with items related to abundance such as “money rice”, cinnamon and cash — but does not leave them stagnant: they take from the bowl and put other things back in. This movement symbolizes the consistent flow of money and other forms of abundance in one’s life. Some bowls have a character in the center that’s meant to guard and protect the contents. My aim with this series was to experiment with creating the ideal money bowls, to hold and anchor the spiritual intention of their owners — actively assisting in attracting luck and abundance through their shapes and colors.
